Lady Gaga has proved to me that she is a star in every sense of the word...

It is unusual for a modern day pop star to be sensitive to the real life issues faced by their fans. Most pop stars are only worried about record sales, fame and how to spend the money that comes along with that fame. Or, as they say, 'sex, drugs 'n' rock 'n' roll.'

Lady Gaga has done many things in the past year to show the world that she is the exception to this rule. And today, she has proved this yet again to this particular fan. I have just been reminded why I don't just like two of her songs in particular- I also like her as a person.

Born This Way Foundation

I have just read that on Thursday, 1st March at Harvard University, Lady Gaga, together with Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra, launched her Born This Way Foundation- named after her 2011 hit album and the single that promotes self-empowerment for all minority groups.

The Guardian reported of the organisation's launch event that Lady Gaga 'spoke to more than 1,100 students and other guests, urging them to "challenge meanness and cruelty." She added: "I believe that if you have revolutionary potential, you must make the world a better place."'

Gaga's representative said the singer has made a $1.2 million personal contribution to the foundation. If that is not using fame for the right reasons, I don't know what is!

Victim Of Bullying

Oprah Winfrey said she supports the foundation because its message aligns with many of her core beliefs, including kindness, compassion, empowerment and acceptance. The famous talk-show host interviewed the singer on stage about the foundation.

Gaga, who has said she was the victim of bullying as a teenager, said the idea for the foundation grew out of the dialogue created after Born This Way was released. She said she received a deluge of letters and emails from people who said such things as, "I want there to be more tolerance in the universe. I want there to be more acceptance."

Inspired By Mum

Lady Gaga hasn't allowed fame to let her forget her roots, either. She said she was inspired to create the foundation by her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, who will serve as the organisation's president.

"She is the sole reason that I am here today. She has always believed in me. She has always been my support, and she makes me want to inject that sense of family and support into the world," Gaga said.

She said the foundation is working with a new media agency to create a social media environment that fosters the foundation's goals.

"I want this to be an organisation where you all feel involved," she said.

Lady Gaga is a star in every sense of the word, and this fan will always love her for her sensitivity as well as her songs.
